Legal & Disclaimers

Last updated 28 August 2026. The amber box is the whole thing in four lines; everything under it is the detail.

MotoBuild is a planning and record-keeping aid, not a qualified opinion.

It helps plan, record and check work on a motorcycle from what you and your manuals tell it — it cannot see your bike, and it cannot tell you whether a job was done properly. Mechanical work on a vehicle carries real risk: brakes, steering, suspension and wheels can fail at speed. Check every figure against the manufacturer’s own service manual, and have anything you are unsure of done or checked by a qualified motorcycle mechanic.

What MotoBuild is, and what it is not

MotoBuild keeps the record of a motorcycle: the parts fitted to it, the jobs done on it, the service intervals that fall due, and the figures that go with them. It takes what you tell it, what your documents say, and what you log at the bench, and organises it into one profile per machine.

It is not a service manual, a qualified mechanic, an inspection, a roadworthy certificate, or engineering sign-off. It has never seen your bike, it does not know how a job actually went, and it cannot verify that anything on your record is true. Everything it shows you came from you or from a document you gave it.

Mechanical work carries real risk

  • Brakes, steering, suspension, wheels and their fasteners are safety-critical. A fastener under- or over-torqued on a caliper, an axle or a triple clamp can fail at speed, and the failure is usually sudden.
  • Torque figures, service intervals, fluid types and capacities differ between model years and markets that look identical on paper. The right figure for a bike that resembles yours may be the wrong one for yours.
  • Some jobs need the manufacturer's special tools, a torque wrench that is actually in calibration, or a press. Improvising them is where parts and people get hurt.
  • Support a machine properly before you work under it, and never rely on a side stand or a jack alone.

If you are not confident, employ a qualified motorcycle mechanic. That is the correct call, not a failure — and it is what we would tell a friend.

Check every figure against the manual

  • Torque values, intervals, capacities, clearances and part numbers come from published manuals, manufacturer data and documents you upload. Any of them can be wrong, out of date, or written for a different variant of the same model.
  • The manufacturer's own current service manual is the authority. Always. If it disagrees with us, it is right and we are wrong - and please tell us.
  • Where a figure is missing, the checks that depend on it go quiet. An absent warning is not a pass; it means we had nothing to check.
  • A service interval is a default from the manufacturer, not a judgement about your machine. Hard use, poor storage and age all shorten one.

Electrical data from MotoWire

Where your profile carries electrical work recorded in MotoWire, the same cautions apply to it — more sharply. A vehicle battery can deliver hundreds of amps into a short circuit, and faults in lighting or ignition can appear at speed and at night. Wire gauge, fuse sizing and voltage-drop figures are under review by working auto-electricians. Have anything you are unsure of checked by one.

Some of what you see is generated by AI

  • Reading your manuals, extracting specifications and drafting records all use large language models. They can be confidently, fluently wrong.
  • The app records how each reading was corroborated against the source document, and marks what it could not confirm. Those markers are there to be read, not decoration.
  • Treat anything generated as a draft to be checked line by line, never as an answer.

Roadworthiness, compliance and insurance

  • Modifying a vehicle can affect its roadworthiness and its compliance with the Australian Design Rules, or the equivalent where you live.
  • It can void a manufacturer's warranty, and it can affect whether an insurer pays a claim.
  • A maintenance record kept in this app is your own record. It is not a service history certified by anybody, and no third party is obliged to accept it as one.
  • Requirements differ by state and by country, and they change.

Confirm with your insurer and your state or national road authority that they accept your modifications before riding on a public road. That responsibility is yours, and nothing in this app discharges it.

This is alpha software

  • MotoBuild is in closed alpha. Features change, data models change, and things break.
  • We make no guarantee of availability, of accuracy, or of data retention. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose - a maintenance history included.
  • Checks and their thresholds are under active review by working mechanics and auto-electricians. Some of them will change.

Component data and where it comes from

  • Specification values - torque figures, weights, capacities, dimensions, service intervals and part numbers - are factual measurements compiled from published sources and restated in our own structure.
  • We do not host or redistribute manufacturers' service manuals or datasheets. Where a source document is published by its owner, we link to it rather than copying it.
  • Reference tables derive from published standards and industry data, and the source is cited where the figure is used.
  • Data can be wrong. If you spot an error, correcting it in the app feeds a review queue that improves it for everybody.

Documents you upload

  • Manuals, schematics and diagrams you upload stay private to your account. They are not shown to other users and they are not published.
  • We read them to extract structured facts for your own records. We do not republish the documents themselves.
  • By uploading a document you confirm you are entitled to hold and use that copy.
  • You can delete an uploaded document at any time, and deleting it removes it from your account.

Trademarks and third-party names

Manufacturer and marque names, model designations, part numbers and logos are the trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. They appear here for one reason only: to identify which machine you are working on and which part you are fitting.

MotoBuild is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise connected to any motorcycle manufacturer or component maker.

Brand mark geometry in the bike picker is taken from the Simple Icons project, published under CC0 1.0. That licence covers the files; the marks themselves remain the property of their owners and are used here nominatively.
